Many of the students in my school often become dysregulated for numerous reasons and then are unable to focus on learning. I am the school social worker and am often called to assist these students and get them back on track. I have some materials but with the materials posted here on my project I would be able to offer more sensory tools and activities for them to calm down and get back on track and in the classroom. I am hoping to make a sensory trail on my floor in which the adhesive stickers will be used to get students moving around and feeling better and incorporate the sensory tiles for them to jump to from one another. Other times I work individually or in small groups with students on how to cope with emotions, everyday problems, peers, etc. to decrease the likelihood of becoming escalated or shut down in class. I would be using the books and games, especially the remote impulse game to teach these necessary skills weekly. I am also trying to find ways to bridge mindfulness to coping and learning and will be able to use the mindful game and Breathe like a Bear Book. With all of the listed items in my project I believe I could be able to better assist the students in my school. With the use of a comfortable carpets students that need to lay or roll around to calm down would have a safe space to do so. The students that need body pressure would be able to safely use the crash pad to get through their day. Students would have more tools to learn how to work through problems and cope with emotions, feelings, and situations better. Please help me help my students.
