A rug may seem like a silly item to request. Yet in the early elementary classroom, this is where students gather multiple times a day to share their thoughts, listen to stories, discuss ideas, learn new concepts, and grow into a little family with their classmates and teachers. Students know that when they are on the classroom rug, they are in a safe space, they are welcome, loved, listened to, encouraged to share their thoughts, ideas and stories, and ready to share in their learning. The rug is an integral part of our daily schedule- students gather there at least five times per school day!
