My students are very used to sitting in rows of desks and given activities that include very little interaction, so our students struggle with collaboration, cooperation, and have limited leadership skills. Another problem I have noticed over the years is that many of my students do not truly have a place where they can feel comfortable and safe to learn and create, but my colleagues and I are trying to change that! With your help, I am working towards creating a section of flexible seating in my classroom. I want to offer choices for my students on where to sit and who to work with so they can discover how they learn best. We no are now preparing students to work in careers that require creative thought, collaboration, teamwork and leadership skills. My goal is to not only teach social studies, but to teach life skills that will carry them through their life!
