In a diverse classroom of 18 Kindergartners there is a lot of movement that goes on. Throughout our day, we stop and get our wiggles out to give our brains a break. How awesome would it be to allow students to get their wiggles out while continuing to work! My Donors Choose project is to allow my students to choose a flexible seating option that is best for their learning and movement needs. Education is becoming more and more individualized so why should our classroom seating charts be any different? Flexible seating allows for choice, community, collaboration, comfort, movement and sensory input to be introduced into the classroom. I believe that by incorporating flexible seating in my classroom, my students will be given what they need to be most successful. I chose to include in my project wiggle chairs, elastic bands, and wobble cushions. The wiggle chairs will help my students, who need movement, time to regain focus and to continue working instead of getting up and walking around aimlessly about the room. The wobble cushions will help other students to have movement on the carpet and at our sit down floor table. The cushions allow for students to bounce and wobble around while staying in their designated spot during carpet instruction. Lastly, the elastic bands will go around the bottom of our chairs to allow for foot movement. This can prevent the kicking of tables, chairs and accidentally some students. The movement allowed by all of these resources will allow my energetic kindergartners to be engaged and given the support they need to be successful in my classroom.
