In our high school Humanities class, we will read this novel "Night" by Elie Wiesel together, and learn about the author's experiences in concentration camps during the Holocaust. We'll study the causes, what led to this happening, the effects on the prisoners and all those involved, and implications of those events throughout history. Using this text, we will explore human rights, the dangers of indifference, and how we can apply this knowledge across cultures and time periods. Students will discuss why human rights are important, what happens to a society when basic human rights are taken away from a group, and how we can prevent such atrocities from happening in the future.
