In 10th grade English, we focus on writing non-fiction and persuasive texts. Having good, published, research-driven non-fiction will really help the students understand this kind of writing. Both "Daring Greatly" and "Getting Things Done" are well-written, research-based books. Their authors are engaging, but provide an organized structure of presenting information - one of the hardest things for student writers to learn. Furthermore, these two novels will enable students to learn about themselves and others while enabling them to gain valuable lessons of organization and empathy. So many of my students struggle with expectations and fear, stress and anxiety. "Daring Greatly" would be a huge benefit to them. "Getting Things Done" is an amazing book teaching time management and organization, a key skill for success.
