I want to give my students a wide variety of materials and experiences to help them learn and grow as much as they can in their first year of school. I teach at a small rural elementary school in Iowa that lacks some materials that bigger school districts have. A light table and some starting accessories would help to engage my students in many areas of learning. It will not only help them academically but socially as well as they practice sharing materials and working together at the light table. Students learn best by using multiple senses and being active in their learning, especially in preschool. We can do hundreds of activities on a light table that are active and engaging for young students. These materials plus other teacher-created activities provide them with hands-on opportunities to enhance their learning in science, math, engineering, art and literacy. Some examples include sensory experiences in the tray on top of the light table like writing in sand (the light shines through where they draw and write their letters/numbers), using their engineering skills to build with translucent blocks and pieces, and experimenting with color mixing through the various light table colors and the splash pad shapes. Plus many many more activities involving shapes, sorting, counting, numeral/letter identification, etc. Your donation to our project will benefit so many young children this year and for years to come. Our small school has an ever growing early childhood program. We have more than 90 students in our preschool program this year.
