As I teach phonics each day, it is so important for me to see individual student thinking. I can quickly see which students understand and who needs more help and practice. Students hold up their answers and I can adjust my teaching in the moment to address deficits. The use of individual writing boards ensures that ALL students are engaged and participating. Using whiteboards has been a great way to do this, however whiteboards have problems that waste time and money. Markers and erasers go missing, the markers dry out so quickly, and dealing with dried out markers during lessons is a huge distraction. The whiteboards also become stained from frequent use. When something goes awry, students must go get a new marker, new eraser, or the last choice, pencil and paper. Even though they are great about doing this, it is distracting for the other students and they miss important instruction. By having magnetic "magic" writing tablets, students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning! The pen is magnetic, never dries out, and is tethered to the board. Additionally, the eraser bar is built in. There is nothing to dry out, get lost, or otherwise interrupt our lessons!
