Learning to read is vital to success in school. These materials will help my students have a hands on way to facilitate the learning of their letters and sounds. The materials will help us get away from paper and pencil worksheets and be able to be hands on and actively engaged in learning by doing.
Children that already know the letters and sounds can use the materials for higher level activities. They can build CVC words, blend the sounds and segment the sounds in words as well. These literacy materials will make reading more exciting, rewarding, and challenging for the students in my classroom.
The materials that I would like to get for my classroom include different uppercase and lowercase letter manipulatives. They include magnetic letters, letter play dough stamps, letter building blocks and then specific word building actives. I would also like to use magnifying glasses to explore letters and words for hands on activities. With these different manipulatives, the children will be able to build words, segment words, blend sounds to make words and other early reading skill activities.
