Important, imaginative words all over the world are disappearing from the vocabulary of children. Author Robert Macfarlane and Illustrator Jackie Morris have teamed up to bring those words back through their magical book of poetry and art. I want to reconnect students with nature, the importance of words and how their art can be impactful in not only creating but also using their visual voice to make a statement. The materials, three copies of the book, gold leaf, vellum and calligraphy pens, will enable students to closely study the poems and art, while also using similar techniques through the use of gold leaf to enrich and enhance their work. This project will inspire students to see the world in a new light!
