By funding this project, the families of El Paso Leadership Academy (EPLA) will have the opportunity to check-out paired book sets in Spanish and English so that Spanish-speaking parents can read alongside their English-speaking children. There is nothing quite as powerful as a parent and child sharing a reading journey, together. When addressing students' academic success with parents at EPLA, located on the U.S.-Mexico border, I have heard so many loving, caring, motivated, Spanish-speaking parents say, "Quiero leer con mi hijo pero todos los libros están en inglés." (I want to read with my child but all the books are in English.") This project will help remove a barrier and allow parents to support their students in the way they know is best - all the while leading to academic gains and further parent engagement. Thank you!
