I teach in the largest city in Illinois. My students come from families that are very involved and dedicated to education. The students attend a charter school that aids in the alleviation of over-crowding in the Latino neighborhoods. This is a choice school that has high expectations of both students, parents and teachers. These are 8th grade students that will attend the top high schools in our city. This is a large focus at our school. It is important that not only these students are able to compete academically in their future high schools but nationally. This is our top priority and objective every single day. The parents of the students will spend their last dime to ensure that the students have what they need. However, this is often at the cost of tending to other important family expenses.
