My students are generally not raised with a love for reading and I try and find ways to increase their passion for books. The way I have been the most successful is by providing them with books that let them see their diverse backgrounds represented in the writing. My students deserve to have the chance to discover their voices and who they are through the books they read. The school system has limited resources and most of the books provided by the system have fallen apart and do not necessarily represent the diverse backgrounds of my students. I want my students to have choice in what they read in order to make them life long readers.
