I teach in an urban elementary school in the Bronx. My incoming self-contained special education class is made up of 13 exceptional students. While they are very eager to achieve, they lack the executive functioning skills, base knowledge and resources to do so. From visual aids, fidgets, flexible seating, and technology to sensory breaks, my students possess a variety of unique needs that I hope to be able to accommodate. The work we will be doing in this classroom is aimed to help prepare students for their future--this means something different for every student. Aside from academics we will be focusing on building relationships, working collaboratively, following directions, and emotional intelligence. We celebrate little wins together each day!
