Strings instruments provide a unique experience for students in the music classroom. They give us the opportunity to discuss how vibrations on instruments work to produce different sounds by altering the length of the strings. They also allow us to discuss how the construction of the instrument affects the quality and type of sound that is produced and how it is amplified. Ukulele's give us the ability to incorporate many new things into the music class room such as STEAM concepts in a way that is accessible to most students. Because ukuleles are smaller and have less strings they are often much easier for students to manage verses other instruments like guitar or piano. They are far more affordable for students who may want to purchase for later use and can lay the foundation for other instruments. These instruments also allow us to discuss how culture shapes musical identities. Although they are similar to other stringed instruments ukuleles are unique in tuning and string number. These instruments will be used to increase the students knowledge in musical notation as well as its practical application in performance. They will also allow our students to learn the basics of chords and chord progressions.
