Following Darcy Potter Williams' podcast, 'After Sectionals,' I have been able to continue developing my students' musical abilities through her suggestions, techniques and philosophies. One of the things that she consistently does is to have her students work individually with tuners while in class. This has undeniably helped her band play at incredibly high levels of musicianship. In middle school, developing students' ability to hear pitches accurately is one of the most important things we do as middle school music teachers. Giving students the opportunity to literally see that they are playing their instrument correctly will be a game changer in their development.
