Amidst Covid19 rules and stipulations, this school year will be unlike any other and unfortunately, our school library is closed. Now more than ever, classroom libraries are essential, and it is vital that I include in my classroom library, books that appeal to the interest of my students but will also expand and broaden their perspective. Within a special education classroom, the offered book selections must include books of many reading levels to meet my students where they are while still encouraging them to read from a place of desire and want. The books that have been selected for my students bear them in mind; in fact, many of the chosen books have been repeatedly requested by my students year after year. Students will pick a book that they are committed to reading independently each day then they will conference with me about their reading, discuss with their peers and lastly write about their reading discoveries. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students to become stronger readers.
