Dictionary skills may seem outdated, but they are still a standard that needs to be learned. Dictionary skills are also imperative for ESL students to succeed. It's a TEKS for our state, and we currently only have ONE outdated dictionary that we share between 25 students. Having a 2 student to 1 dictionary ratio, will enable our curious students' learning of new vocabulary and word choice and provide them with a much needed tool in the classroom. I chose the Houghton Mifflin American Heritage Dictionary because it is 3rd grade appropriate, it is updated and it is in color. Thank you!
