Kindergarten students learn best by being able to play with objects. The reason for this is simple, it engages more senses and is fun! Kids love novelty. Touching new textures and moving objects excites the brain! The items that I have chosen as a need in our classroom will allow students to interact with learning concepts in an engaging and multisensory way. Learning new concepts should be fun. When a student can hold a learning concept in their hands and manipulate the objects, they are engaged. The storytelling pieces that I chose will allow the students to retell familiar stories as well as get creative and make up new endings or even completely new story lines! The ten frames set will allow students to create addition and subtraction problems that help them to visualize and better understand number sense. The tools that I have chosen will be able to be used in whole and small group instruction as well as in classroom centers.
