I teach Biology in a high school that has a high proportion of free school meals and is very mixed in the background and ethnicity of our pupils. I teach EOC and AP classes, hence all grades, 9th to 12th. The majority of my pupils are highly motivated (but some are re-taking the class in order to graduate), but all share one thing in common - they love doing labs. One of their favorites labs is working with microscopes as they can't believe that something can appear so different when view under a different magnification. I love grabbing their attention and getting their enthusiasm to flow for Biology in this way. To see them open up and become so excited about something so seemingly simple is worth its weight in gold.
