The mp3 players will be used for two specific purposes. The first, is to help students focus and stay on task. The second purpose is to assist English language learners. Every child has an honest desire to learn. However, many students that struggle with ADD or ADHD have an added challenge. Many times they are highly intelligent, but they just can't stay on task. I have found that students that are able to listen to music, with headphones, are better able to concentrate. While listening to music, the students' minds will be occupied in one part, while the other is able to focus on the given task. Having attention disorders, means that their mind is constantly jumping from one thought to the other. Thus, they are frequently unable to retain concepts. Hopefully, with the mp3 players and headphones, these students will have more success in learning and progress. The second purpose for the mp3 players, is to help Language learners. I will use audiobooks for these students. Sometimes listening and following along is the best way to master a new language. Conversational language is achieved within one to three years. However, the academic language can take up to 8 to 10 years. This means that a student that is learning English, will be able to communicate with peers, but still not able to comprehend in class or what they are reading. The audiobooks will help the students in reading and acquiring an understanding of English which will help in their educational progress. I want every child in my class to learn and the mp3 players will help those that have these unique roadblocks.
