This novel will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. This novel will give a voice to the Urban Indian in our suburban classroom which sits on Chinook land. My students in Oregon are surrounded by a rich Native heritage and rarely experience this bountiful heritage. The world is made of stories, nothing else, just stories, and stories about stories. The urban native story is missing from our current school curriculum and thus our student's understanding of the world around them suffers. The novel, "There There" is a necessary story. It is a story that can impact and build empathy across cultural and historical barriers. We need this in our country now more than ever.
