Growing up I never really knew how lucky I was to know two languages. Ever since I started teaching Spanish, I have wanted to give my monolingual students the opportunity to grow and become bilingual. I’ve pondered on the many ways I could help them make this process easier for them. The best thing that I could come up with was to have a Spanish classroom library. I really enjoy reading stories to my daughter who is currently learning both English and Spanish and I thought to myself “I bet my students would enjoy reading Spanish books too”. So, this year I would like to start my own classroom Spanish library. I know firsthand how much pleasure reading in the target language helps with proficiency and I would love to give that opportunity to my students. I have had the honor to teach many talented students this past year. I had a total of 6 Spanish classes and it was amazing to see native English speaking students reading, speaking, and writing in Spanish. Each and everyone of them has the potential to grow, they simply need access to the tools that will maximize their academic learning. To develop a classroom Spanish Library with a variety of high interest Spanish books that will support student language acquisition and allow students to explore Spanish reading options. The variety of books will help reinforce vocabulary and structures learned in class. It is very important to have a variety of reading options and wide range of levels so students will be able to choose books based on their interest and at their level during our Free Voluntary Reading time. Research has shown that the more we read, the more language we acquire. With your generous donations to our classroom library, you will be part
