Students affected by the California wildfires and currently in recovery mode from the wildfires will utilize these classroom materials to maximize the opportunity to create a new learning environment and structure while displaced from their classrooms. This special group of students is thriving through adversity in the wake of losing their community of Paradise, CA. This set of materials will be used to apply math to real scenarios that can be carried into life beyond middle school. Students will use problem solving strategies, team building, and communication techniques in the math lessons to build. Creativity will be used as they explore linear and exponential functions using these stem tools. K’nex sets requested give students an opportunity to visualize the math learned in class through hands on creativity. Lessons associated with the K’nex sets will include speed, effects of gravity, linear equation models, quadratic expression models, and much more.
