My students love to think independently and show off their creativity in all of their projects. Unfortunately, they do not find coding as engaging as other game based programs. They have gained experience block coding but find it hard to actually learn to code. Codesters will be an excellent resource for my students who have absolutely no experience coding. The step by step process will keep them engaged and feel empowered. My students underestimate their potential and lack self-confidence. This independent study provides students a place where they can make mistakes and still make progress. The three phases namely, Build - Modify - Create will help students to learn gradually and at their own pace. Codesters and CodeMonkey will also give confidence for girls to code. Some of my students who have a natural gift of coding and others with learning disabilities have expressed their desire to code. Even though they want to learn one of the main struggles for both boys and girls is their diligence to overcome obstacles. They tend to easily give up if they do not get through the very first time or get help immediately. Codesters and CodeMonkey will provide them immediate help with hints and consistently monitor their progress. I strongly believe both boys and girls will feel empowered and confident as they equip themselves with coding, literacy of the future.
