This project will provide books for our classroom library. Students will check out books from the classroom library purchased with this project that are appropriate for their age and language levels. Students will also have the opportunity to check out books in their first language to continue building their language proficiency in their first language. Student choice in reading is essential to encouraging reading development. Having more choices and a culturally diverse library will greatly benefit the students by helping to increase their reading comprehension in multiple languages. Also, having books that are in the students first language shows a cultural sensitivity that students need to feel that the academic environment is positive and welcoming.
