My students come in enthusiastic to learn and read every day. However, we do not have a comfortable spot for students to read. Currently, they are each reading at their table or desk. Many of my students have expressed a desire for comfortable reading spaces in the room. Through the use of the carpet and pillows, the students will be able to sit with me on the floor and listen to read alouds while participating in group discussions. They will also be able to read there for independent work. It will also give students the chance to come sit at the front of the room while taking notes so they can see the board easier. The carpet area will also give me an area to pull students for small groups. Through small group instruction on the carpet, students can sit and hear each other read, as well as share work and look on as I demonstrate for them.
