In our classroom we will be devoting 8 weeks to study insects. Students will have the opportunity to listen to read alouds about what makes an insect an insect as well as focus in on different types of insects. To expand on students knowledge of insects I will be incorporating the materials listed throughout various parts of the day in different content areas. I will use the literature requested for students to read during our independent reading portion of the day. I will use the book: Hey, Little Ant, to read aloud to students, then give them an opinion writing prompt asking them to use examples from the text in justifying the choice they will make to either save the ant or squish the ant. I will incorporate the insect models to allow students to see details about the insect that they are reading about and writing about. During our science block I will allow students to examine bugs that they will hunt for outside. Students will utilize the ant farm by recording their observations in a science notebook
