My students are participating in the National TRAC Bridge Challenge for the first time this year! They are building a model Tied-Arch (Bowstring) Bridge from balsa wood and glue that will be tested for strength. Our team will be competing against other schools from around the US. What we need the most is the Pitsco Structures Testing Instrument that is used to judge the bridge's strength-to-weight ratio. Having this instrument will help students to accurately determine how their bridges will fare at the competition, since this is the same testing instrument that the judges will use. Having accurate test results will also help in creating their project portfolios they must submit because having that data is key in detailing their project.
