This project will help to start a medical library in my classroom with the purchase of 4 novels, titled "In Shock: My Journey from Death to Recovery and the Redemptive Power of Hope". Additionally, I request some anatomy coloring books to use as a resource. Medical reading books are a great way to increase literacy as well as increase awareness of the reality of the field of medicine. Medicine is an ever changing field with many different avenues for students to explore. Students in our honors level health science curriculum are required to read and critique medical books as part of their learning experience. Having the anatomy coloring books will meet the diversified needs of some of my students. Knowledge is KEY, and reading enhances the literacy skills of our students! The best way to increase literacy, is to read more. Having these books available in the classroom will give the students access right at their fingertips on any given day, and will encourage them to research medicine, beyond the curriculum.
