I am looking to obtain materials that would address a very important skill set: sensory integration (SI). SI is the brain's ability to organize and interpret experiences of touch, movement, body awareness, sight, sound, smell, taste and the pull of gravity. How does this factor in their daily lives? What if the sound of a pencil drop was equivalent to the sound of a honking train? Wouldn't you be distracted? Located in one of the poorest districts in the Bronx, our students face many barriers. Many of them rely on staff to provide classroom tools and supplies. Some of them have difficulty regulating their emotions and need a place to recollect. Others are easily distracted, and can benefit from over-ear headphones and reduced visual stimulus. Our sensory seeking children love to learn through movement, they demonstrate so much potential learning through vestibular and tactile sensation. A sensory room will be enormously beneficial for these students. They demonstrate the eagerness and willingness to learn, now let's give them the support necessary to actualize their potential. Please consider helping our students today!
