My students come to fifth grade with a varying degree of reading ability and interests. For many, classic fifth grade novels are overwhelming in length and are not always entertaining. Especially for my students who do not have the attention stamina to sustain reading for very long. In an effort to encourage reading among all of my students, and not just those who enjoy reading, I am asking for magazine subscriptions. This will allow me to specifically chose text related to specific interest and give them nonfiction articles that are engaging and relevant.
