Balanced literacy is an important part of a child's education. By helping children have access to many books, children will be able to self-direct their learning during reading time! First, students will spend some time reading books at their independent level. Then, students will have the opportunity to read with a carefully selected partner during partner read time. These book should vary in content so that children stay engaged during the reading workshop. Also, this time is a fantastic opportunity to introduce children to a variety of new vocabulary and fun topics! Every two weeks, students get assessed on their reading level and will have the task of switching out their book selection. This is exactly the point in which a beautiful and plentiful leveled library will come in handy! Students will visit our leveled library to choose books at their new level.
