These items will introduce my 3rd-grade students to 21st
century learning in the form of easy access kits that include coding and basic circuitry activities. Often times Science and Social Studies are secondary subjects in the elementary classroom which end up being cut if a special program is occurring during the school day. We have little time to allow students to investigate and explore those very activities which promote problem-solving and independent thinking.
My goal through this project is to make supplies available throughout the day to allow, not only early finishers, but all students to get a chance to discover how amazing the world around them is and how it really works. We cover a basic circuitry unit in Science and these hands-on kits would allow them time to manipulate the actual circuits and coding gadgets. From this experience, the students will problem solve as they explore so that the learning is done through actual "doing" instead of videos or textbooks. I want to promote this 21st-century learning mindset in all subjects, especially those that sometimes seem to get pushed to the back burner.
