The Chromebooks in my classroom will change the lives of our students. The Chromebooks will be used on a daily basis for a variety of subjects and purposes.
I look forward to setting up a technology center where students can access DreamBox and RazKids daily. Both programs have been purchased by the school but we have limited access due to shared time with the technology cart. With students working independently on their Chromebooks, as their teacher, I will be able to facilitate small group instruction with greater frequency.
Without enough computers in the classroom and a limited time with the technology cart, it is difficult to make sure each student gets the time they need to spend gaining technological skills. Not only will the Chromebooks be used for typing out their writing, learning how to research, and creating presentations, but they will also learn the foundational skill of navigating through the web. Technology in the classroom is all the more important for our school district at this time. The standardized test based on the Common Core State Standards, called Smarter Balance, will be implemented when they enter 3rd grade. This test is taken on the computer and students will be expected to have these computer skills. If students begin gaining these skills in 1st grade, they will be confident test takers in 3rd grade.
Thank you for reading about this very important project to help my students have more exposure to technology and use the Chromebooks in a variety of ways.
