My students have a passion for reading. They are constantly asking questions about the world and looking for ways to further their knowledge and understanding of other cultures, historical events, and notable figures. I am seeking donations to supply my classroom with books that are relevant to my student's lives. The students in my classroom come from all over the world, each bringing their own unique background, culture, and story to share. They love learning about each other and with each other, and often make meaningful connections between texts and their own lives. The students have particularly taken great interest in influential people such as Jacqueline Woodson, Frida Kahlo and Malala. They have strong opinions regarding topics such as social justice and environmental issues, with each one offering their own ideas for change. The books on my list such as "Malala's Magic Pencil", "Separate is Never Equal" and "The Day You Begin" are just a few of the texts that reflect their interests and backgrounds. It is critical that my students are able to access, read, enjoy, and discuss books that contain characters who look like them and also have similar cultures. Please consider donating to help my students grow as learners and trailblazers.
