Technology needs to be integrated throughout each child's learning experiences. Children are not learning specific facts, but rather what is the best way to access information about a specific topic. They need to develop skills, such as problem-solving, perseverance, and collaboration. Technology and specifically coding help develop these essential life-long skills. Through the use of technology, like the iPad, Bee-Bot, or Osmo, in our classroom, children showcase their learning through opportunities to collaborate with their peers and explain their thinking. I will guide children in using technology to show what they have learned and then share it with their families. The children are motivated to use the technology and are excited to share with their families what they have learned. If you would like more information on the specific teaching tools I incorporate in our classroom, please feel free to reach out to me. When integrating coding into the curriculum, we focus on how it is a sequence of steps in order to achieve a goal. If the series of steps do not work, children reflect on the cause and effect and problem-solve what happened and what needs to change. These are great team-building activities when working with a partner or small group! Your donation will help purchase materials to help increase the number of opportunities for children to actively engage in such activities with our current increase in class numbers.
