As a new teacher, it is hard to find money to give students everything they deserve in a classroom. It is known in the education world that representation of students' backgrounds in the classroom help foster an effective learning environment and a close classroom community. It is time to update the outdated classroom library that is provided. Students connect with and crave the feeling of connecting with the curriculum. New books that reflect who is in my classroom, has the potential to change the way students see themselves in their school. Reading about someone who looks like them, feels like them, or thinks like them allows for a sense of belonging.
