Students know what it means to sit in a desk ; to read a book about some place, some event, or some person. They have done that for years! This trip will allow students to become engaged with history. They will get to experience history authentically. History is vital to who we are , who we once were, and who we want to be. Allowing students to visit The National Memorial for Peace and Justice and The Legacy Museum helps to bridge that gap to learning that the classroom can’t always do. The equal justice initiative is vital to American History. They work to end mass incarceration, they challenge racial and economic injustice, and they work to protect human rights. Who we are. Who we want to be, and not forgetting those who lived through injustice is vital. It’s time to get out of desk, and move the classroom to the museum!
