Carpet time is a daily thing for students to join me on the floor to eliminate the distractions of sitting at their desk. It allows the students to have a place and be able to know exactly where to go. The students will feel involved and the participation level from the class, as a whole, goes up. The pencil sharpener is a critical piece, as the students do not have sharp tools to utilize in order to learn. It also provides a way to build a community as the pencil sharpener would provide an opportunity for a class helper.
