The books I am requesting - In the Woods, Ink Me, Spiral, No Easy Race - are high interest, low vocabulary for my students and will encourage independent reading. These types of books also encourage students to follow along with the reading as I read aloud to them. I also often read aloud to my students, as the required academic standards (required novels) are often beyond the reading abilities of my students. As high school students, they are often hesitant at first to have a book read to them. However, as I begin reading aloud, the joy in their faces as they become involved in the story line demonstrates the positive effect reading has. My students enjoy choosing books for me to read. They enjoy social topics, such as dating and high school sports. They especially enjoy mysteries. The students like to predict what is going to happen, or create their own ending to mystery stories.
