My " First Grade Superstars" are highly motivated learners growing up in neighborhoods that can be dangerous at times. Despite the many challenges they face living in the inner city they show up every day eager and willing to learn. We are a Title I school, located in South Florida, where over 98% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. A majority of the students are immigrants from Haiti, Honduras, Dominican Republic, and countries in Central America. Their families have brought them here hoping to find great opportunities, but many of them are working two or three jobs struggling to provide them with even the most basic essentials. As their teacher, I want to provide them with a comfortable and safe classroom environment where they can focus on their learning experiences.
