If we were to give every child in our school a new book, we would call the kids over, one class at a time, and let them choose whatever book they like. I would explain that these books were donated by an organization that loves children and wants to see them succeed in school and in life. They would be reminded that when they choose to read, it also helps them be successful in other subjects, too. When children are given a self-selected book of their very own to keep, they will be more motivated to want to read it.
