The otoscope is an invaluable assessment tool as a school nurse. Over the past eight years, I have used my now dying otoscope to look in hundreds of ears, noses, and throats. This Welch-Allyn Macroview otoscope will be used to visualize the ear canals, tympanic membranes, nasal cavities, and throats of any of the 689 students enrolled in our school district, and being able to share my assessment information with parents helps them determine how to proceed in seeking medical treatment for their child. It will also be used for any preschool aged children that attend Head Start and special needs preschool at our physical location. Finally, staff members also benefit from this assessment tool being available for the nurse to use. Anyone can be susceptible to ear, nose or throat symptoms.
