My students come from all walks of life. Some have learning difficulties, are poverty stricken, others have language barriers inhibiting their learning. While all of this is still very prevalent in their everyday lives, they still have a desire to know and learn more. They have a drive to be more than their circumstances say they are and more than what their community looks like. Although they have been written off by some of the most important people in their lives, they still come to me everyday with a zest to prove those who have written them off wrong. The school where we work (me teaching and them learning), is an older school and we serve some of the neediest students and families in this city. We try to provide food and gifts during the holidays, as well as during the school year, that are provided by our partners to our families that are in need. Although my students have huge obstacles to face, I give them all that I can and they know that I will expect nothing but the same.
