All of our students taking English II will be reading and discussing Elie Wiesel's memoir NIGHT. We need additional resources in our classroom library for students to read and learn about the causes and motivations of the Holocaust. I am requesting an assortment of literature and nonfiction about the Holocaust so students can select texts to read alongside NIGHT. Research suggests the importance of student choice in reading selections for helping students improve as readers and for maintaining interest in reading. We also know that students should read multiple texts on a topic to gain a broader understanding and to consider varying perspectives. This is similar to how we all interact in the world today. We read or listen to a variety of sources to learn about what's happening in the world in which we live. Students will make these connections as they contemplate Holocaust history through literature.
