A great way to create effective literacy instruction for English learners is to provide extensive and varied vocabulary instruction. Engagement is key! Flocabulary is something I have used in the past for vocabulary instruction and it has been very successful. Students adore the "rap" songs and continue to sing them months later. Unfortunately, with Flocabulary being a service I carried over from a previous position in another district, the subscription was not budgeted for in my new role. Flocabulary’s research-based approach engages students and drives academic achievement across the curriculum. By connecting the songs and words to what the students are learning in their core classes, they have better access to the curriculum leading to outstanding results. I am also asking for the Percy Jackson and The Olympians book set for my middle schoolers to have more titles available in our classroom library.
