Recently, I choose to move to a Title 1 School where over 82% of our students qualify as low-income. Many of our students have had several traumatic experiences in their life. These life experiences have impacted the children's ability to trust, learn, and grow, both academically and emotionally. Due to their high crisis rate, it is vital for me as an educator to provide a physical learning environment where they each feel safe, validated, and able to learn. Currently, my students do not have a classroom rug, safe places to calm down when over-stimulated, or differentiated learning environments. The materials listed in my DonorsChoose.org project will help provide safe places where they have multiple opportunities daily to engage in learning environments, both collaboratively and creatively, without having to be seated in a traditional desk environment. Students will be using the rug spaces to practice self-regulation, integrate with small groups during hands-on math activities, participate in Kagan learning strategies during language arts, and most importantly, engage with one another constructively during STEM discovery and project-based learning. Please help my students succeed by giving them a classroom in which students feel safe, loved, and sensory oriented. They need the opportunity to grow as 21st Century leaders through flexible teaching strategies. These students deserve the opportunity to learn in a way in which they are individually able to succeed. Thank you.
