My students are creating animal habitats from scratch! These materials will help them build realistic models and show their learning through expository writing pieces. First, the students partnered up to research a habitat of their choice. Next, they created a 2D model of their habitat. We then wrote an essay using notes about their habitat. Now, the students are researching animal adaptations. They will next create a new animal (not just put two animals together- I keep saying "You can't have a HippoBird!) using specific adaptations. They are asked to describe why their animal has such adaptations. Then, they will create the animal from these materials and write another essay about the animal. The project will culminate in transforming our classroom into a zoo. Students, families, and community members are invited to see the final project.
