First grade isn't what it used to be. We don't just learn to socialize, add 2+2, and read "See Spot run". Most don't really realize that we are learning to read for information, write with supporting details and conclusions, and math that is preparing them for the years to come. We do all of this while honing our listening skills in following directions. Some of these are simple tasks individually but all at once are quite a bit for youngsters. Since not all children are at the same learning level and ability, my challenge is meeting all their needs. Having math and reading games available to them in the classroom will allow them have fun while utilizing the skills we are learning. I am equipping our classroom with different types of flexible seating as well, to ensure that all styles of learning are being met and encouraged. Seeing them grow academically as well as emotionally/ socially is the greatest reward .
